Barnes Railway Station
Details
The Access for All (AfA) project at Barnes Station, a Grade II listed station in Richmond upon Thames, London. This initiative is part of the Department for Transport’s (DfT) AfA programme, aiming to enhance accessibility across the UK’s railway network.
Project Overview
• Station Enhancements: The project involved the installation of a new two-span uncovered footbridge at the eastern end of the existing canopy, three lifts, and three new staircases. These additions provide step-free access to all platforms, significantly improving mobility for passengers with disabilities, parents with prams, and travelers with heavy luggage.
• Additional Upgrades: Enhancements included new wayfinding signage, upgraded lighting, and the installation of security cameras around the bridge, contributing to a safer and more user-friendly environment.
